What Happens To Your Christmas Tree At 174 MPH?

What Happens To Your Christmas Tree At 174 MPH? O Christmas tree, o Christmas tree, how speedy are thy branches. The holidays are here, and folks that celebrate Christmas need to get their tree up quickly because the big day is coming very soon. In a new video, Hennessey Performance shows the fastest way it knows to haul an evergreen home. The company mounts some temporary roof rails to a new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody and straps a tree to the muscle car. The supercharged machine then heads out onto Continental Tires' test track in Texas to see how a conifer affects the car's top speed.

A tuner shop in Virginia got its hands on the long-awaited SRT Demon and did the first sensible thing—find out how much power it puts down at the wheels. Dodge says the two-door coupe will make 808-horsepower at the crank on 91 octane gas, but as with any car, that number declines by the time that power reaches the ground. The question is, how much does the figure differ than the one Dodge claims?

Research Dodge's latest models on MSN Autos

Turns out, not by much. After strapping it onto the dynamometer, the results show the rear-wheel-drive car peaking at 724-hp while running ordinary pump fuel. That's an approximate 10% loss of power from the drivetrain. The SRT Demon is also rated at 840-hp on 100 octane racing fuel. Either way, it will produce an excess of 700-wheel-horsepower. By comparison, the SRT Hellcat is good for 707-hp at the flywheel and, according to the same tuner shop, 640-whp.

Watch Hennessey Take The Dodge Challenger Demon To Its Top Speed

Watch Hennessey Take The Dodge Challenger Demon To Its Top Speed It’s not as high as you think, but the acceleration is just brutal. Research 2018 dodge challenger See Full Specs See Pricing There’s no denying that horsepower junkies have been captivated by the Challenger SRT Demon since Dodge unveiled the barely-street legal drag racer almost a year ago. We know it accelerates like mad – to refresh your memory Dodge says it will reach 60 miles per hour in 2.3 seconds and trip the quarter-mile lights in 9.65 seconds, provided it's set up to run racing fuel.

The SRT Demon is powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 and will go from 0-60 miles per hour in just 2.3 seconds. Production is limited to just 3,300 units. Priced at $84,995, these numbers make the muscle car a pretty big bang for its buck. Finding one at that price, however, will prove to be difficult despite the carmaker's attempt to discourage markups.

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Is Back For 2019 With Two Giant Nostrils On The Hood .
The drag nightmare of a 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was only planned for one model year, but its less powerful sibling isn’t going anywhere. The 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is a go, and the first teaser images of the car shows that it’ll have a full-on snout with dual snorkels on the hood. Can you practically see this thing breathing heavily like it’s about to stampede you? Yeah, same. It’s a machine of drag-strip destruction that now looks like one, too, and it’s terrifying—like a big, plastic, intimidating nightmare that you can’t wake up from. Mission accomplished on that one.© Provided by Univision Interactive Media, Inc.
