Enthusiasts Quirky One-Off Ferrari 328 GTS Conciso Heading To Auction
1966 Shelby 427 Cobra S/C Sells at $2.94 Million at RM Sotheby’s Scottsdale
Preston Tucker’s Tucker 48 is runner up at $1.79 millionAs bidding fell flat at $9.8 million on Saturday evening, it became clear that the reserve would not be met, leaving RM Sotheby's high sales award with the '66 Shelby 427 Semi-Comp Cobra and its $2,947,500 winning bid, some half-million dollars over the top estimate. Semi-comp Cobras are rare—the result of Carroll Shelby converting left-over competition cars for street use, after failing to meet FIA homologation requirements.
Barely Driven Bugatti EB110 GT Estimated To Auction For $950,000
A mere 2,820 miles (4,540 kilometers) have been driven. At the upcoming RM Sotheby’s Arizona auction in January, this rare and well-kept Bugatti EB110 will cross the auction block. It’s had only one owner since new, and has driven a mere 2,821 miles (4,540 kilometers). Under the hood is the factory-derived, quad-turbocharged 3.5-liter V12 producing 550 horsepower (410 kilowatts). From a standstill the EB110 has the ability to sprint to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in just 3.6 seconds, and continue on to a top speed of 213 mph (343 kmh).
Often the best way to get your name out there is to do something big, and in the automotive world there are few more significant ways to establish a firm's design skills than by debuting a radically styled,-based model at a major motor show. That was the German company Michalak's thinking behind building the Conciso and premiering it at the 1993 Frankfurt Motor Show. Now, has announced the chance to own this unique creation with no reserve at the upcoming Monaco auction on May 12.
German designer Bernd Michalak crafted the svelte, simple shape, and his team formed the panels out of aluminum to save weight. There's no roof, no doors, and a simple, frameless windshield. Entering the car requires stepping up and over the rather broad sills. Be careful during a spirited drive because there isn't a roll hoop, so flipping the roadster would probably be your last ride.
Leaked! Your First Look at the Hardcore Ferrari 488 Pista
Not the 488 GTO, the 488 PistaJust before Valentine's Day, Ferrari posted a teaser that seemed to confirm rumors that it had been developing a hardcore, track-focused version of the 488 that might even dethrone the LaFerrari. Despite several leaks, we didn't expect to actually see the car until the Geneva Motor Show next month. But official images appear to have been published early, as has the name, which means we can now show you the Ferrari 488 Pista.
Inside, the Conciso has a minimalist cabin. Oddly, the speedometer and tachometer are out of the driver's immediate vision on an angled panel to the right of the other instruments. As an interesting touch, there are special areas in the door panels for carrying helmets.
Underneath the Conciso's smooth look, it uses the running gear from a 1989 Ferrari 328. A mid-mounted, transversely oriented 3.2-liter V8 sits behind the driver and makes 270 horsepower (201 kilowatts). The power routes through a five-speed manual, and the driver controls it through a gorgeous gated shifter in the cockpit. The simple body reportedly cuts the standard 328's weight by 30 percent. The result allegedly lets the roadster reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in around 5 seconds and claimed top speed of 173 mph (278 kph).
Despite the wild look, the Conciso is road legal. A previous owner already went through the process of getting it registered in Belgium.
RM Sothebys doesn't yet have an auction estimate for the Conciso, but it's interesting history should result in an intriguing sale.
