Not only was Issa Rae the first person of color to host the annual fashion awards , but she also wore a Pyer Moss dress with an embroidered belt that read "Every Nigga Is A Star" AND she roasted TF outta Kanye West. And so the CFDA was no exception.

Last night, Issa Rae hosted the 2018 CFDA Awards at the Brooklyn Museum. For her gig at one of fashion's biggest nights of the year, the Insecure actress used her look to make a powerful statement on the red carpet.

Opting for sparkling midnight blue, Rae hit the red carpet in a one-shouldered jumpsuit/gown hybrid designed by Kerby Jean-Raymond for Pyer Moss. And while the Swarovski-encrusted look was statement-making in itself, it was the star's accessory of choice that really did the talking.

Accentuating her waist was a black belt embroidered with white stitching that read "Every N**** Is A Star." For her night becoming the first black woman to ever host the CFDA Awards (in its 37-year history), it was an especially fitting accessory choice.

The inscription originally came from Jamaican artist Boris Gardiner's 1973 song and film of the same name. Recently, it re-entered the pop culture scene after being featured on the soundtrack for Moonlight, the Best Picture winner at the 2017 Oscars.

The song was also sampled on Kendrick Lamar's 2015 track, "Wesley's Theory."

To say Issa Rae is having a great year would be an understatement— the actress and creator of the hit HBO show, Insecure, has had an amazing year and now has one more achievement to tick Rae has been selected to host this year’s Council of Fashion Designers of America ( CFDA ) Fashion Awards .

Along with using her belt to make a powerful statement on the red carpet, Rae also spoke out inside the ceremony as well. The actress used her hosting platform to take a couple digs at Kanye West's recent comments on slavery.

"I’m about as fashionable as Kanye is black. Only when it’s convenient. That joke was my choice, just like slavery," Rae said in her opening monologue.

Last month, the rapper infamously called 400 years of slavery "a choice" while giving an interview at TMZ's office. While West wasn't in the audience at last night's CFDA Awards, his wife Kim Kardashian was in attendance as she received the Influencer Award.
