John Williams is charged with killing 61-year-old Somerset County Cpl. Eugene Cole on April 25 in Norridgewock. Prosecutors are seeking a life prison sentence.

A cashier told 911 that Williams took an Old Gold cigarette pack and displayed a firearm.

The cashier said she believed Williams fled in the same sheriff's truck that Cole had just filled up at the Cumberland Farms store.
