The Internet was briefly set ablaze on Friday with rumors and speculation that the New England Patriots were on the verge of trading Rob Gronkowski, but one of the team’s most connected beat reporters says that is not happening.

Tom E. Curran of NBC Sports Boston is reporting that there is “zero truth” to any talk of a Gronkowski trade being imminent.

For what it’s worth, one of Gronkowski’s brothers also dismissed the rumors as “fake news.”

Gronkowski has openly said that he is seeking a new contract, but the Patriots reworked his deal last season and seem open to doing the same again for 2018. Given all the drama that has unfolded in New England over the past several months, it would not have been the most stunning development for Gronk to be traded.

The latest bombshell news regarding the Patriots is that star receiver Julian Edelman has been suspended four games for a PED violation. That news actually leaked on Reddit before ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported it, and that same Reddit user may have helped spark the Gronkowski rumors on Friday.

Gronk opens up about delaying retirement, staying away from team

Gronk opens up about delaying retirement, staying away from team Rob Gronkowski, as you likely know, decided not to retire this year and is now back in the fold with the New England Patriots, who are engaged in their mandatory minicamp right now. That said, on Tuesday Gronkowski made it clear that he was “definitely” considering retirement this offseason.Gronk: [Retirement] definitely was in the mind, but I had to do what I had to do. I felt where I felt good enough to get my body right again. See where my body was at. See where my mind was at… I feel like I definitely made the right decision coming back out.

Ever since the New England Patriots were defeated in Super Bowl 52, Rob Gronkowski remained non-committal to playing in 2018. Boston Radio station WEEI is reporting that the Gronkowski is likely going to be traded

The following morning, Schefter expanded on that report , saying on WEEI’s “Kirk & Callahan” that trading Gronkowski never has been in the Patriots ’ plans despite the uncertainty surrounding the All-Pro tight end’s future.

‘No-fun Patriots’ seem to be lightening up, perhaps to appease their disgruntled stars .
Lane Johnson would be shocked to learn what the Patriots did this week as they wrapped up nine weeks of offseason workouts. On Monday, Bill Belichick canceled practice and instead held a team bonding experience at Fenway Park. On Tuesday, the Patriots returned to practice, but Belichick turned it into an opportunity to teach his players about football history, using props including leather helmets, I’m told.
