  Border Patrol: Agent wounded in shooting in southern Arizona The U.S. Border Patrol says an agent has been wounded in a shooting in southern Arizona near the U.S.-Mexico border.A Border Patrol statement says the agent was taken to a hospital Tuesday morning for treatment but provides no information on the agent's injuries or the circumstances of the shooting.The statement says the shooting happened south of the community Arivaca (ayr-uh-VAH'-kuh) at 4:30 a.m. and that several people referred to as subjects of the investigation were taken into custody.It says the FBI and the Office of Professional Responsibility of U.S. Customs and Border Protection are investigating.

People . One day earlier, Rio Grande City agents teamed up with officers from the Roma Police Department to raid a fifth stash house in two days. Inside the house , agents found eight illegal immigrants and took them into custody.

Border Patrol agents, acting on a tip, arrested 62 undocumented immigrants found in a two-bedroom house in Laredo on Tuesday.

The immigrants had very limited food and water and were awaiting transportation to another location inside the United States, according to Border Patrol.

"This enforcement action demonstrates the United States Border Patrol's commitment to work with the Webb County Sheriff's Office and other law enforcement partners to disrupt illicit activity, deny criminal organizations the ability to operate, and protect human life," Laredo Sector Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Jose Martinez said in a statement.

Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch released very few new details at a morning news conference.Karisch said the agent, a veteran with 21 years of experience, was investigating activity picked up by sensors while patrolling on foot in a rural, mountainous area south of the community of Arivaca when the shooting occurred before dawn Tuesday.

U.S. Border Patrol agents, along with local and state law enforcement, on Thursday raided a stash house in Palmhurst and found 31 immigrants. They also found Maldonado-Valdez and two people inside of a blue Jeep Cherokee parked beside the trailer, the criminal complaint said.

On the same day, authorities discovered 54 undocumented immigrants in the back of a tractor-trailer in San Antonio, two and half hours north of Laredo.

The individuals found in the two-bedroom stash house were from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador. They were all arrested and processed, according to Border Patrol.

In July 2017, dozens of undocumented immigrants, 10 of whom died, were found in the back of a tractor-trailer in San Antonio. The driver of that vehicle was sentenced to life without parole in April.
