Trump lawyer insists Comey misled Senate about leak timeline

Trump lawyer insists Comey misled Senate about leak timeline President Trump's lawyer accused former FBI Director James Comey Friday of misleading the Senate Intelligence Committee about when and why he leaked personal memos to the press. In a combative statement, Marc Kasowitz lashed out at the media, accusing the press of misreporting his claim that Comey gave false testimony. On May 12, just days after Trump fired Comey, the president suggested over Twitter that he may have secretly recorded their private conversations.James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!- Donald J.

Former FBI Director James Comey admitted that he leaked memos from his conversations with President Trump to his friend , Daniel Richman. The issue here is that Comey now says he doesn’t have ANY copies of the notes left to show, because he deleted them from his computer.

In an Oval Office tete-a-tete the following month, Comey said Trump pressed him to drop the FBI investigation into Flynn, who had been fired for lying to the vice president about unreported conversations with the Russian ambassador.

WASHINGTON - A friend of former FBI Director James Comey said on Tuesday he is turning over any memos of Comey's conversations with President Donald Trump in his possession to the FBI, MSNBC reported.

It said the friend, Columbia Law School professor Daniel Richman, confirmed to NBC News that "he's now turning over any Comey memos that he has in his possession to the FBI."

Comey, who was fired by Trump last month, said in congressional testimony last week that he gave a memo describing his conversations with Trump to a close friend and told him to share its contents with a reporter.

MSNBC reported that Richman also said Robert Mueller, the special counsel leading an investigation into Russian links with the Trump campaign during the 2016 U.S. presidential elections, has been in touch with the Senate Judiciary Committee to discuss how the panel can get access to the memos.

Comey followed careful plan in leaking memos .
James Comey's release of his memos to The New York Times was a carefully orchestrated act that appeared designed to shield him from any legal repercussions, whistleblower and ethics lawyers say. While President Trump's personal lawyer, Marc Kasowitz, is reportedly preparing a leak complaint against Comey, experts say the fight over Comey's disclosures is more political than legal."It's clear that Comey understood the legal p rinciples [protecting disclosures]," said Stephen Kohn, a lawyer who specializes in whistleblower cases. But, he said, "Trump's lawyer was also smart because he's filing these complaints in places that don't mean anything.
