WASHINGTON — Less than six weeks after he helped revive a flagging House Republican health care bill and push it to passage, President Donald Trump now says the measure is “ mean ” and is asking GOP senators to make it more generous.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) on Thursday refuted President Trump's characterization of the House Republican healthcare bill as "mean."

"You know what, it's not mean. I'll tell you what's mean in the process is, you look at Iowa. Ninety-four out of 99 counties will not have any health care. The Health and Human Services came out that ObamaCare's actually doubled in premiums," McCarthy told MSNBC's "For the Record with Greta."

"We're talking about saving individuals and making sure they don't have to go through losing their health care. So, you know, I think you look at our plan, our plan is a very good plan."

US President Donald Trump told Republican senators that the House -passed health care bill he helped revive is mean '' and urged them to craft a Trump ' s characterizations seemed to undercut attempts by Senate leaders to assuage conservatives who want restrictions in their chamber' s bill

Trump, according to GOP Senate aide, described the House legislation as "mean" during a meeting with Republican senators.

When pressed by host Greta Van Susteren about Trump's characterization of the lower chamber's bill, McCarthy dodged the question.

"I think let's see at the end of the day what the plan looks like," McCarthy said.

"The most important thing here is that you know, more people took the penalty and the waiver than actually signed up for ObamaCare. Plans are pulling out and losing health care overall."
