'Maniac' Trailer: Jonah Hill and Emma Stone Undergo 'Brain Magic' in Netflix Miniseries

'Maniac' Trailer: Jonah Hill and Emma Stone Undergo 'Brain Magic' in Netflix Miniseries Netflix released the first trailer for "Maniac," its mind-bending miniseries that sees Jonah Hill and Emma Stone undergo some "multi-reality brain magic s—." The series stars the former "Superbad" duo as a pair of strangers who get caught up in a doctor's (Justin Theroux) strange pharmaceutical trial. You better take a seat: Things don't go as planned. In the trailer, both Stone and Hill are thrust into multiple realities of their characters, which also appear to span different timelines. Annie is disaffected and aimless, fixated on broken relationships with her mother and her sister. Owen, the fifth son of wealthy New York industrialists, has struggled his whole life with a disputed diagnosis of schizophrenia. Neither of their lives have turned out quite right, and they are drawn by the promise of a new, radical kind of pharmaceutical treatment — a sequence of pills that Dr. James K. Mantleray (Justin Theroux), claims can repair anything. The lead characters join 10 other strangers at Neberdine Pharmaceutical and Biotech for a three-day drug trial. The series is a remake of the Norwegian show of the same name, which aired in 2014. "Maniac" is created by Patrick Somerville and directed by "Beasts of No Nation" director Cary Fukunaga. Hell is back, and it looks as intense as ever. At Quakecon today, Bethesda revealed the first proper look at Doom Eternal, the sequel to 2016’s excellent reboot of the iconic shooter series, with a series of lengthy videos. Eternal was initially revealed at E3 back in June with a teaser trailer, but this is the first time the developer is showing off gameplay. You can watch the keynote in its entirety above, though the Doom section starts about an hour and 11 minutes into the presentation.

As promised during the original announcement, Eternal introduces hell on Earth, with a new setting that brings the demon hordes off of Mars and down to our home planet; though there are still sci-fi locations like the Martian moon Phobos. The action, meanwhile, looks just as nail-biting and brutal as its predecessor.

The developers at id say that this version of the “doom slayer” — the nameless protagonist — is the most powerful in the series’s history, complete with new weapons and an updated design. There’s also a new “destructible demons” system that lets you cut enemies into little bits, and a system that lets you play as a demon and fight against — or “invade,” as the developers describe it — other players in their own single-player campaign.

The 2016 reboot was a surprise hit of pure action when it launched, especially as the game was saddled with a long and tortuous development. Not only was the original great, but it also expanded to a number of unexpected places, with releases on both the Nintendo Switch and VR headsets.

Doom Eternal is coming to PC, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One, though there’s currently no release date.
