Duke now unanimous No. 1, Arizona falls out of new AP Top 25 Duke is now the unanimous No. 1 in the AP Top 25. And Arizona has gone from No. 2 to out of the poll in a week. The Blue Devils (8-0) were atop all 65 ballots in results released Monday after they won the PK80 Invitational's Motion Bracket in Portland, Oregon. They picked up the 11 first-place votes that last week went to Arizona, with the Wildcats (3-3) turning in a stunning 0-3 showing in the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas.

Villanova used a dominant first half to beat Gonzaga in Tuesday' s Jimmy V Classic matchup.

Here are three takeaways from Villanova's win:

1. Mikal Bridges joined college basketball's elite — Merely a role player throughout much of his college career, Bridges — not to be confused with Michigan State's Miles Bridges — has certainly made a name for himself this season, highlighted by Tuesday night's 28-point explosion.

Ten best early-season college basketball games to watch

Ten best early-season college basketball games to watch College basketball’s season is starting to hum as it moves closer to hitting its stride. We’re still weeks away from the highs of conference rivals in packed gyms, prepping for March match-ups. That being said, most top teams aren’t just playing a soft schedule until midseason arrives. Every coach knows that a strong non-conference schedule is essential for building a tournament resume and for keeping your team sharp through the season. The slate over the next month or so features a deep catalog of games that will teach us something important about both teams and the college hoops landscape as a whole. These are the kinds of games that help transition from the uncertainty of preseason rankings to a better understanding of which teams have Final Four hopes. Here’s a look at the 10 best early-season games to watch. 10. Oklahoma at Wichita State, Dec. 16 Powerful mid-majors like Wichita State usually don’t have an easy time wooing top-level programs into true road games. When they are capable of bringing in a tough test to campus, they need to take advantage and get a win. The Shockers can beat anyone in the nation on any given day. Point guard Landry Shamet is a floor general, surrounded by scoring talent at every position. At the Maui Invitational, Wichita State took care of business in the first several rounds before going toe-to-toe with Notre Dame. The Shockers lost that game in the final seconds, in what felt like a preview of an Elite Eight game.

That will be a big win come Playoff time. by Chris Lane@chrisjjlane Sep 3, 2017, 8:18am EDT. Villanova outlasts Lehigh 38-35 in offensive thriller. Here are the three main takeaways from week 1’ s 38-35 win over Lehigh.

Big Ten. Gonzaga basketball remained undefeated with a victory over Arizona in Los Angeles. In a game that had a little bit of everything, here are three takeaways from the showdown at the Staples Center.

Bridges hit 8 of 14 from the field (5 of 9 from 3-point range) while adding six rebounds. The Wildcats lost a lot of scoring from last season's team, but Bridges' emergence should help make Villanova scary on offense (again). Bridges was helped by fellow breakout star Phil Booth's 20 points.

2. Villanova finally has a post presence — Missing from last season's team that suffered a disappointing early exit from the NCAA Tournament was a dominant scoring threat around the basket. Enter Omari Spellman.

The Wildcats have historically been guard-heavy, dating back to the Allan Ray days of a five-guard lineup, but Villanova fans should be happy to see a load like Spellman occupying the paint. Spellman poured in 10 points with eight rebounds Tuesday, good for his third straight double-figure scoring effort. He gives Villanova an added dimension missing from seasons past.

Five takeaways from Flynn's guilty plea

Five takeaways from Flynn's guilty plea Flynn is now cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.Flynn, a former Obama-era defense official turned surrogate for Trump's campaign, is now cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into whether there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Ironically, the one game the Bulls have won this year was probably the one that they played the worst in. Sure, Robin Lopez had 16, but took 19 shots to get there. Which brings me to the first of my three takeaways from Thursday’ s game.

The Orange moved to 4-0 with a 74-50 win over the Oakland Golden Grizzlies. Dolezaj has made the “ winning ” plays in the first three games of the year, but in tonight’ s blowout, Dolezaj made his presence known with a few blocks, and some diving efforts.

3. Gonzaga needs the most out of Jonathan Williams every night — Not only is Williams the most important player on Gonzaga's stacked roster, he's also one of the best players in the country. But the double-double machine was limited to just five points and zero rebounds Tuesday while serving most of the game in foul trouble before ultimately fouling out.

With Williams out of the game, Gonzaga looked dangerously thin in its frontcourt, and the guards, led by Zach Norvell Jr.'s 22 points, could only do so much.
