Barstool founder Dave Portnoy announced Wednesday on Twitter the NFL removed all "Sundays are for the --" merchandise from its online shops. Barstool, which trademarked the slogan "Saturdays are for the boys," sent the league a cease and desist letter two weeks ago demanding the NFL stop selling and destroy all the inventory in question.

The NFL had not commented on the issue, but Portnoy said Wednesday the league finally caved.

"We have conquered the NFL," he tweeted.

The Barstool account added, "Barstool Sports broke the back of the NFL. Made them humble."

In December, Portnoy, promising legal action against the league, was surprised and slightly delighted the NFL appeared to rip off his slogan.

"It's a weird move by them," he told the News at the time. "And we obviously have a bad history with the NFL, so they haven't exactly endeared themselves to us and vice versa. So to pick this fight is strange."

Barstool was barred from attending Super Bowl events last year and has reportedly infuriated Roger Goodell by selling merchandise with a Goodell clown face on it. Barstool has been printing clown face shirts in response to Goodell suspending Tom Brady after Deflategate. Patriots defensive coordinator, and a favorite to win the Giants head coach job, Matt Patricia wore one of the bright blue shirts coming off the Patriots' team plane after they won the Super Bowl.

Barstool also tried to fill Gillette Stadium with 70,000 rally towels with the image for the first game of the season. The stunt was dubbed "Operation Clown Face" by the sports/humor site.

"Everything related to the NFL, we're banned from," Portnoy said. "Whether it be Media Day, whether it be even doing negotiations for TV shows, everybody's afraid of the NFL in their relation to us because they know they don't like us. Everything the NFL touches that maybe we should be involved in ... we always get the message the NFL frowns upon working with Barstool Sports."

After this latest chapter, it appears the NFL is a long way from turning that frown upside-down.
