Manny Machado expected to remain with Orioles

Manny Machado expected to remain with Orioles Baltimore Orioles third baseman Manny Machado probably isn’t going anywhere. Not this offseason, anyway. The MVP-caliber talent has been the center of speculation for much of the offseason. That is, despite how slow-going it has become. He’s been on the trade block for most of it as well. But teams around the league believe the Orioles are overplaying their hand. After all, Machado is set to become a free agent after next season.

It appears like Manny Machado and the Baltimore Orioles will head to an arbitration hearing.

The three-time All-Star and his team will not settle on a salary for 2018 prior to Friday's 1 p.m. ET deadline, according to a source of MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

Machado, 25, was projected to earn $17.3 million, according to MLB Trade Rumors, but it appears like the outcome of his 2018 salary won't be determined until Jan. 29 when arbitration hearings are set to begin.

Report: Yankees continue to ask Orioles about Machado

Report: Yankees continue to ask Orioles about Machado The New York Yankees aren't giving up on their pursuit of adding another superstar to their lineup. New York continued to call the Baltimore Orioles this week about a potential trade involving third baseman Manny Machado, sources told Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Even though industry sources told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand on Wednesday the expectation is for Machado to begin the year with Baltimore, the Yankees appear to have the organizational depth required to land the three-time All-Star.

Peter Schmuck: Orioles have done nothing to chase away the gloom .
The headlines tell the whole story. The big Orioles news this weekend is that the team signed four more minor league players - three of them at least 29 years old. The other news involved the revelation that 2017 12th-round draft choice Tucker Baca has been suspended for 60 days for a performance-enhancing drug violation. So, tell me, is this any way to spend the last week before Orioles FanFest?Next Saturday, thousands of Orioles fans will crowd into the Baltimore Convention Center to celebrate the unofficial start of the 2018 season and, at the moment, all they really have to talk about is the unpleasant end of 2017.
