The three suspects arrested in connection with the attempted break-in of NASCAR owner Richard Childress’ home in December now face additional charges.

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that after further investigation the three men arrested in connection with the attempted break-in have now been charged with conspiracy to commit first degree burglary and possession of stolen firearms.

The each have received an additional $200,000 bond, the department said.

The Sheriff’s Office issued a news release on Jan. 2 indicating it had arrested three individuals on Dec. 29 for the attempted first degree burglary of the Childress residence.

The three men arrested are: Niquan Victorin, 20, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Chantz Kade Hines, 18, of Winston-Salem; and Armeka Vantonne Spinks of Salisbury, N.C.

At the time, all three were charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree trespassing and being held on $250,000 secured bond.

They are scheduled to appear in Lexington (N.C.) District Court on Jan. 29.

Childress and his wife, Judy, were at home on Dec. 17 when they heard a crash on the lower-level of their house at approximately 10:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. The burglars – caught on surveillance camera video – entered the home by breaking a window next to a doorknob, which activated an alarm.

Childress heard the crash of the glass and retrieved his own weapon before going to investigate, the sheriff’s office said. When he saw the people inside his house, he fired at them.

Charity to provide military survivor benefits during shutdown .
A Maryland based charity has promised to ensure the families of fallen troops will be paid survivor benefits during the government shutdown. The Fisher House Foundation will ensure benefits including a $100,000 payment will be paid within days of a death, Fisher House spokesperson Kerri Childress told CNN."Under a government shutdown, the Department of Defense has no authority to pay death benefits to these families," chief Pentagon spokesperson Dana White told CNN. As well as the payment, the benefits include funeral and burial reimbursements.
