ESPN bowl audience up 12% versus last year heading into championship game

ESPN bowl audience up 12% versus last year heading into championship game With the Georgia-Oklahoma All-SEC matchup coming up in the national championship game tonight, there’s a lot of focus on how low the ratings might go. While the matchup tonight, the playoff selection process, and UCF claiming a national championship for their own has brought a lot of scrutiny to the current four team structure, what about the rest of bowl season?

I'm an Illinois football season ticket holder *".

While we're still rehashing the details of the thrilling national championship game and talking about quirky stories from it, college football season is officially over.

It seemed like September was merely a few weeks ago, and position battle arguments are still fresh in our minds. How is it that the bowl season came and went, along with the relevance of debating which teams deserved a spot in the College Football Playoff?

As of Friday, there are 230 days until college football returns, but there are several places you can still find it before then. Here are five of the best you might not think of - in case you can't wait for spring games and training camps.

1. The Senior Bowl

OK, so all the bowl games that have real implications have been played, but there's technically still one more. The Senior Bowl is set for Satuday, Jan. 27 (2:30 p.m. ET, NFL Network).

Arizona fires Rodriguez amid hostile workplace claim

Sure, most of these players have never been on the same team before, but they're still among the best in college football this season and are several top NFL Draft prospects. While the official roster isn't scheduled for release until next week, tons of players have already accepted invitations to participate, including Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield, San Diego State running back Rashaad Penny and Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph.

2. Condensed replays

Replays of full games are great and all, but the Big Ten Network's Football in 60 (easily found on BTN2Go.com) is the best way to watch a game without losing an entire afternoon. It's exactly what it sounds like - a game replayed in an hour with things like reviewed calls and timeouts edited out. It's a great way to relive the glory of some of the best games on demand.

3. Sports YouTube channels

If you're not interested in waiting around for your team's best games to pop up on TV, you could try a variety of YouTube channels. Team- or conference-specific channels - like the SEC, ACC Digital Network or Big Ten Network - feature an abundance of highlights from this season as well as past ones. But random, unaffiliated channels are also an option. One already has the complete national championship game available, and it's not challenging to find several other full matchups.

Gene Steratore Named Super Bowl LII Referee

Gene Steratore Named Super Bowl LII Referee Get ready for plenty of index card jokes in the weeks leading up to Super Bowl LII. Gene Steratore, the ref who famously turned to an index card for help in a measurement earlier this season, has been named the referee for Super Bowl LII, which will be played Feb. 4 at U.S. Bank in Minnesota. It'll be the first time that Steratore, 54, refs the Super Bowl. He was previously the alternate for Super Bowl XLIV in 2010, and he has reffed 11 playoff games in his career. It may not be about a national championship team, but the Netflix docuseries Last Chance U is still college football. The first two seasons are available right now, and the third one - which follows Independence Community College in Kansas - is expected to be released this year.

5. Big Man Back on Campus

This new documentary from ESPN and AT&T AUDIENCE Network followed four former football stars from each of the four College Football Playoff teams this year - Alabama's Greg McElroy, Georgia's Garrison Hearst, Oklahoma's Jason White and Clemson's Tajh Boyd - as they returned to their alma maters. It debuted last week, but it can be found on demand with an AT&T or DIRECTV subscriber logins.

Seahawks Could Be Ready to Make Major Change on Offense Next Season The Seattle Seahawks are looking to make a number of changes this offseason and one could be completely revamping the entire offensive system. After an anemic offensive performance in 2017 that led to a 9-7 record and the firing of veteran offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and offensive line coach Tom Cable, the Seahawks may embrace an offensive style from the college ranks.
