The suit, filed against Ron Bell and his girlfriend Jennifer Pendley, claims the two attempted to defame Pastner and extort and blackmail him with false information that would damage Pastner's reputation and cause him to lose his job.
Georgia Tech suspended starting basketball players Tadric Jackson and Josh Okogie in November after learning they accepted benefits in violation of NCAA rules. The two received apparel, meals and transportation from the same person whose identity at the time was not reveled. Jackson and Okogie have since been reinstated.

The report Georgia Tech filed with the NCAA claims that Pastner had no knowledge of the trip until Oct. 2, and that he immediately self- reported the violations when he became aware of them. Bell, however, claims that he and Pastner had a falling out on Oct.
Bell claims Pastner knew of the payments, but Pastner has denied acknowledgment. Bell also claims Pastner allegedly assaulted Pendley, but Pastner said he didn't learn of this claim until a phone call with the NCAA.

$300k to settle sex discrimination claims against Congress
Nearly $300,000 in taxpayer funds has been spent to settle 13 claims against members of Congress or their offices since 2003 that include sexual harassment or sex discrimination, according to statistics released by a House committee on Friday.The Committee on House Administration released a list of settlements stemming from claims against member offices between 2003 and 2007 that include three cases involving sex discrimination that total more than $27,000.

The Veterans Affairs Department has apologized following an incident where a scalpel was allegedly left inside the body of a veteran for years following surgery. Load Error VA Secretary David Shulkin said Wednesday that the department is working to address the claim and prevent future mistakes. "It's an event that should never happen, and I am deeply sorry that any veteran should have to undergo this," Shulkin said, adding that the incident was "inadvertent on the surgeon's part.
