Devonta Freeman was playing through some injuries towards the end of the Atlanta Falcons’ season, the running back revealed after the team’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday night.

ESPN’s Vaughn McClure reported Saturday evening that Freeman played through MCL and PCL sprains in his right knee towards the end of the season.

Freeman rushed for just seven yards on 10 carries in the 15-10 loss to the Eagles, though he did have a receiving touchdown for the second straight week. Including the playoffs, Freeman did not rush for more than 3.7 yards per carry in the team’s final four games.

Devonta Freeman ( MCL , PCL ) does not require surgery. Freeman finished the season playing through MCL and PCL sprains . Including the postseason, he averaged just 2.64 yards per carry over his final four games.

Freeman emphasized that the injuries had nothing to do with his play and that he's not using it as an excuse. Freeman finished with 7 rushing yards on 10 carries against the Eagles and had a 6-yard touchdown reception from Matt Ryan.

It’s unclear whether Freeman will need surgery this offseason, but the running back told McClure he hopes to avoid a procedure.
