The Mets need to make some room for another broom in their trophy case, after following up their sweep in the NLCS last October with another stunning four - game dismantling of the Cubs this weekend at Citi Field.

On Thursday, the Mets blew a 5-1 lead at Wrigley Field and lost, 6-5, allowing the Cubs to sweep them in a four - game series in which the Mets ’ hitting was meager and their pitching, with the exception of Harvey on Wednesday, was not great, either.

Wildlife park: Bear cubs rescued after mother is euthanized Two orphaned bear cubs have been placed in the care of a wildlife rescue park south of the Grand Canyon after authorities euthanized their mother. The wildlife park Bearizona in Williams says the 4-month-old black bears were rescued from a towering treetop in Arizona's White Mountains by a professional climber who was able to lower them to safety in a backpack. The park says the Arizona Game and Fish Department was forced to euthanize the cubs' mother after twice removing her from a residential area in the town of Pinetop-Lakeside. And this season, the Mets and Cubs just happened to play a four - game set and a three-game set, instead of a more common three-three split. That's what happened when Chicago swept the season series from Atlanta in 2008.

Cubs Rally to Complete 4 - Game Sweep

There’s seemingly no such thing as rock bottom when it comes to the Mets, who continue to find new and creative ways to lose.

On Sunday afternoon, just hours removed from a 14-inning loss, it was a steal of home and a botched decision by Jay Bruce allowing Luis Guillorme to catch a ball in shallow right to lead to a sacrifice fly which doomed the Mets in a 2-0 loss to the Cubs. The Mets (27-30) were swept in the four-game series in which they scored just six runs in 41 innings, four coming in one game. They were shut out for the fourth time this season.

Steven Matz was locked in a pitcher’s duel with Jon Lester, who didn’t allow a hit until Kevin Plawecki’s two-out single in the sixth. Matz allowed two singles to begin the seventh, putting runners on first and third. The Cubs attempted a double steal, with Matz seeing Wilson Contreras take off for second while Javier Baez dashed for home behind him. Matz threw to first in a pickoff attempt, and Adrian Gonzalez’s throw home couldn’t beat Baez, who scored the game’s first run.

After Kyle Schwarber’s single put Contreras on third with one out, Ben Zobrist hit a pop-up to shallow right with Bruce and Guillorme converging. Bruce would’ve been in better position to make a throw home moving in from right, but he allowed Guillorme to make the catch, and the second baseman had to reset to throw home and was unable to throw Contreras out.

Matz, who didn’t miss a start after being removed from Tuesday’s outing with a slight strain of his left middle finger, gave up two runs in seven innings on five hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Lester attempted a squeeze with Addison Russell running home, but Matz made a nifty glove flip to Plawecki to get the out at home and keep the game tied 0-0 in the third inning.
