Odell Beckham says he will attend training camp, will not hold out
Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. wants a new contract, but he has no plans to hold out of training camp to get it.
Beckham hosted a football camp today and spoke very briefly to reporters, who asked him whether they’ll see him at training camp.

"We got to do more as a team to get these wins and I feel like if there's anything I can do to improve as a back and improve my game to help the Odell Beckham Jr. may be out for the season, but the Giants star receiver was making his presence felt on Wednesday at the team facility in East Rutherford.

And " to avoid a distraction" assumes that he will become a distraction just because he hasn't gotten his And there's also the report from March that Beckham won't set foot on a field until he gets his That was evident when the team decided to take RB Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 pick back in April.

Odell Beckham Jr. is not planning to hold out for a new contract from the New York Giants, but that does not mean the star wide receiver will be a full participant in mandatory minicamp this week.

Beckham is still working his way back from ankle surgery that ended his 2017 season, and ESPN’s Josina Anderson reports that the Giants discussed the possibility of declaring him fully cleared medically at the start of minicamp. Beckham, however, would prefer to “safely avoid team reps” for the time being.

Kimberly Jones of NFL Network had a similar report:

It makes sense that Beckham wouldn’t want to rush anything with his ankle, but you have to wonder if his contract is a factor. Until he signs a new deal with more guaranteed money, Beckham may not want to risk suffering a significant injury.

A recent report indicated the Giants want to wait before giving Beckham a new contract for a couple of different reasons, but he could put pressure on them by holding out later on in the summer. As of now, OBJ has seemed content to play nice.

Packers fan’s lawsuit against Bears could impact anthem debate .
As the NFL braces for the NFL Players Association’s potential legal challenge(s) to the new anthem policy, the league should be concerned, at least a little bit, about the possibility of a lawsuit based on the First Amendment. What’s that, you say? The First Amendment doesn’t apply to private employers? It generally doesn’t. But when private employers put their employees to work in a publicly-funded venue, the analysis possibly changes.
