Sam Darnold could open the season as inactive for Jets

Sam Darnold could open the season as inactive for Jets The New York Jets have invested too much in Sam Darnold to rush him onto the field in 2018, and the former USC star may not even be on the active roster in Week 1 if he does not beat out Teddy Bridgewater and Josh McCown for the starting job. The Jets are holding an open competition at the QB position this summer, and many assume Darnold will be the team’s No. 2 option if he isn’t named the starter. However, as ESPN’s Rich Cimini notes, it makes no sense to have Darnold serve as the backup on game day if the Jets feel he is not ready to start.

Teddy Bridgewater threw during part of the Minnesota Vikings' opening organized team activity Tuesday. What that means for the quarterback's continued Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff throws a pass during minicamp at California Lutheran University. Kirby Lee, USA TODAY Sports.

The answer won't come this week at the Jets ' mandatory, full-team minicamp where veteran Josh But this is still a big step in the evolution of Darnold and the continued rebuilding of the Jets . Or perhaps it could open the door for Teddy Bridgewater , who is the real wild card in the Jets '

Teddy Bridgewater continued to impress at the start of Jets minicamp on Tuesday.

By all accounts, he looks healthy and is indeed in the mix for the Jets' starting quarterback job if they elect to keep him on the roster. If not, he will certainly garner trade interest, as he seems to be healthier than originally thought. Bridgewater's health is still a wait-and-see until the pads come on, but he has emerged as the best Jets offensive player throughout camp so far.

Sam Darnold to begin camp third on depth chart but has “real chance” to start

Sam Darnold to begin camp third on depth chart but has “real chance” to start Sam Darnold will begin training camp third on the depth chart behind Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater, head coach Todd Bowles said Thursday. Darnold will get a chance to compete for the job.

Dianna Russini of ESPN is reporting that, having lost out on the Cousins derby, the New York Jets will be turning their attention to Teddy Bridgewater in their search for a quarterback. Bridgewater appeared to be poised to take a significant step forward in 2016, but a fluke

organized team activities on Tuesday, May 22, 2018 (5/22/18) at the Atlantic Health Training Center in Florham Park, N.J.? Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater ? These players will have some proving to do during training camp (and also during the Jets ' 13 spring practices, including mandatory minicamp ).

He has received nothing but rave reviews. Bridgewater's play has even taken some of the spotlight away from Jets first-round pick Sam Darnold.

It is early, but every time Bridgewater practices in front of the media, he puts on a show. He has displayed a solid pocket presence and good decision making and he seems to be moving around just fine on his knee.

Bridgewater went 6-of-11 passing on 26 reps, three with the first team offense on Tuesday.

After coming back from a devastating injury, Bridgewater has cemented himself in the Jets quarterback carousel. Each of the three guys - the third being Josh McCown - can start Week 1 and nobody would be surprised.

Bridgewater signed a deal that was only worth $500,000 guaranteed, with more money tied to playing time incentives. The Jets took a chance on him to improve a quarterback room that for so long has been putrid.

If the rave reviews are any indication, then the Jets are going to have a hard time figuring out what to do with Bridgewater. That's not a bad problem to have, though.
