If Floyd Mayweather won't put a date on his long-awaited matchup with Conor McGregor, the Nevada State Athletic Commission will.

The NSAC has approved Mayweather Promotions' request to hold a boxing event - presumably for the boxer's long-discussed dance with the UFC lightweight champion - on Aug. 26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, chairman Anthony Marnell told ESPN's Brett Okamoto Wednesday.

Mayweather's camp had reportedly verbally retracted the request on Tuesday, although the date was still on the docket for Wednesday's meeting.

Whether the blockbuster crossover bout does indeed go down on Aug. 26 remains to be seen, as a bevy of parties are involved in bringing it to fruition, including the UFC, its new owners WME-IMG, Mayweather Promotions and Showtime Sports.
