  3 men killed among 33 people shot citywide in Chicago Family members crowded into a small corridor under the "Emergency" sign at Mount Sinai hospital after a mass shooting injured nine people about a few block away in Lawndale early Sunday. Few details were available about the shooting in the 3300 block of West Douglas Boulevard, where police canvassed a green space dividing the road. They laid down more than 30 evidence markers.

Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes has been stabilized at HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, after his truck collided with a moving train Friday.

Illinois State Police confirmed to ESPN's Brett Okamoto that Hughes drove his truck across a railroad crossing and a moving train collided with the passenger side of his vehicle Friday morning. Hughes was subsequently airlifted to hospital.

UFC president Dana White said Hughes suffered head trauma as a result of the crash.

The hospital released a statement Friday evening:

Former UFC fighter and Hillsboro native Matt Hughes was airlifted to HSHS St. John’s Hospital in the noon hour on Friday, June 16, 2017. The HSHS St. John’s Regional Trauma Team stabilized him and continues to help him in his recovery.

Hughes' family asks that you respect their privacy during this difficult time. They ask that you keep Matt in your thoughts and prayers.

Hughes was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame in May 2010 and retired from mixed martial arts in 2011.
