Paul George addresses trade rumors: 'I'm a Pacer'

Paul George addresses trade rumors: 'I'm a Pacer' With rumors swirling that Paul George was going to leave the Pacers, he reaffirmed that he will be staying in Indianapolis — for now. When the Pacers star was asked if he was going to remain with the team his answer was simple. "I’m under contract as a Pacer," George said, via the IndyStar. "That’s all that needs to really be known. I’m here. I’m a Pacer."Key words: "Under contract."George, who is set to make $19.5 million next season before a player option in 2018, also denied the rampant rumors he is being courted by other teams, especially by the Lakers."They’re all crazy, but they’re all expected," George said.

Now , the Pacers must make a decision: try to trade him for some assets or let him walk with nothing in return. The former is difficult. Even if George doesn’t stay, it’s the Cavaliers ’ best shot at a ring in 2017-18.

Lakers 'have little incentive' to trade for Paul George . According to the Los Angeles Times no matter what happens to Paul George in 2017, he plans to become a Laker in 2018. The Cleveland Cavaliers ' Collapse Completely Ruined Their Outfit Idea.

According to reports, the Indiana Pacers now know what seemed inevitable a month ago: That Paul George is done with them after this year and wants to play for hometown Los Angeles Lakers.

This presents a huge problem for Indiana. From USA TODAY Sports' Jeff Zillgitt:

Now, the Pacers must make a decision: try to trade him for some assets or let him walk with nothing in return. The former is difficult. No team, including the Lakers, will give up much for George knowing he is intent on joining the Lakers. The best-case scenario for Indiana is getting something from the Lakers, who want to make sure they get George instead of waiting for free agency.

Five trade destinations that make the most sense for Paul George

Five trade destinations that make the most sense for Paul George The Indiana Pacers are more and more likely to move star forward Paul George this summer after he reportedly informed the team that he had no intention of committing to them long-term. Video by CBS Sports

The Indiana Pacers won the Paul George trade . Yeah, I know, I’m crazy, right ? Trust me, I’ve heard that a lot before, but the exact trade I predicted two weeks ago just happened, so at least hear me out. So the Pacers had to trade him now .

Are you saying they need Paul George because Lebron can't guard Durant? I doubt either Bron or George would want to deal with banging down low against 250 pounders more often than they do right now (even though both play small-ball 4 fairly often).

But that doesn't make a ton of sense for the Lakers. If George does want to go back to Cali, Magic Johnson can just sit back and wait to sign him. And what NBA team wants to trade a ton of assets for a star player who's likely going to bolt after a year?

There's an easy answer, and there are reports that they're chatting with the Pacers' front office: The Cleveland Cavaliers.

If the Cavs stick with the roster they have, they know they'll fall short to the Golden State Warriors again … and there's always the possibility the Boston Celtics upgrade their roster too before next season. Acquiring George would be the perfect move - he'd improve the Cavs' defense and would give them an even bigger name than Kevin Love (more on him in a second) on the roster.

Kyrie Irving “Might Be Willing” to Push for a Trade as Cavs Implosion Nears

Kyrie Irving “Might Be Willing” to Push for a Trade as Cavs Implosion Nears The NBA offseason is officially bananas.

George , who said he wants out of Indiana after his contract is up next year, is the most sought-after trade target in the NBA right now , and would certainly George is precisely the type of player the Cavaliers need if they’re going to have any chance in yet another rematch with Golden State.

The Lakers, Celtics and now Cavaliers have been at the centre of the George rumors, most recently involving a potential three-team deal, per ESPN’s Marc Stein. The Raptors need to get involved in a potential trade for Paul George . © 2018 FanSided Inc. All Rights Reserved.

So what's the ideal deal? It's actually easy, and it's been approved on ESPN's Trade Machine: Love for George.

The Pacers get the best possible value they can find for their departing star, and the Cavs get to fight the Warriors' fire with fire by acquiring George. And maybe, during next season, LeBron James convinces the forward to stick around instead of bolting to L.A., which then potentially keeps James in Cleveland long-term should he be pondering another move after next year.

Even if George doesn't stay, it's the Cavaliers' best shot at a ring in 2017-18. It's the perfect plan, especially when James isn't getting any younger and the Warriors aren't getting any less talented.

Indiana might balk at the idea of trading George for someone under contract through 2019-20, but it's better than the alternative: Losing their superstar for nothing.
