Police are at two deadly shooting scenes that leave five people, including the suspected gunman, dead in Johnson County.

Officials with Kentucky State Police said the shooting was reported around 3:40 p.m. Saturday.

The Johnson County Sheriff's Office said deputies found two people dead in the kitchen of a home off McKenzie Branch Road. Deputies said they could not find the suspect, but later received a tip that his vehicle was on Mill Street in Paintsville. Deputies said two additional victims, along with the suspect identified as Joseph Nickell, were found dead inside an apartment. Police said Nickell took his own life after committing the murders.

"This has been a horrific murder spree. The lives of four innocent victims were taken. The perpetrator then took his own life. There are no words to describe the heartbreak in seeing four lives taken due to the actions of one man," Sheriff Dwayne Price said. "I have worked in law enforcement for 34 years. This is one of the most disturbing acts of violence I have ever seen."
