London police said a man with a knife was arrested Friday in front of the British Parliament.

The scene appeared calm from images broadcast on U.K. news networks, with armed officers taking the man in his 30s into custody and searching him. 

London's Metropolitan police said officers on patrol near Parliament, "became aware of a man acting suspiciously. The officers approached the man in order to speak with him. The man reached for a knife, and police discharged a Taser."

Traffic continued to pass on the road leading from Parliament over Westminster Bridge, crossing the Thames, during the brief incident.

London: A man was arrested on Friday near the gates of the UK Parliament for possession of a knife and tasered by Scotland Yard officers, an incident that comes Within seconds there was a shout and police ran out of the front gate shouting at him ‘Get on the floor, get on the ground’,” he told reporters.

Scotland Yard confirms man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife and preparing terrorism. The terror suspect who was detained with a 'rucksack full of knives ' near Parliament square had been tracked on an intricate web of Randy camels mate in front of bemused drivers.

It was on that bridge earlier this year that a terror attack began that saw a man with a knife first drove an SUV into pedestrians on the bridge and then fatally stabbed a police officer inside the Parliament compound.

In statement released later Friday, the police said it was still "too early to understand the motivation" of the man who was arrested, "so we have not declared this a terrorist incident." 

However, "given the location, the circumstances and recent tragic events," the Counter Terrorism Command of London's police department was tasked with investigating the incident.

UK to double length of next Parliament to deal with Brexit .
The British government plans to have the next Parliament hold a two-year session to deal with the expected onslaught of Brexit-related legislation. Parliament normally sits for one year, but officials said late Saturday night more time will be needed.House of Common leader Andrea Leadsom said Parliament will need "the maximum amount of time to scrutinize these bills" by holding a two-year session.The legislation is expected to include the Great Repeal Bill to convert existing European Union law into United Kingdom statutes.
